Dr. Jeff Rodgers

After graduated with a BS in biology from Lee University in Cleveland, TN, Dr. Rodgers decided to pursue a degree from the University of Alabama School of Dentistry. Because of his parents’ struggle with obstructive sleep apnea, he became passionate about learning more about the condition. Seeing their difficulty with traditional treatment options, he was on the lookout for a more accommodating option to meet their needs. Witnessing the difference that customized oral appliances made in his parents’ lives, he decided it was something he wanted to pursue for himself.

Since then, Dr. Rodgers has been committed to raising awareness of sleep issues and oral appliance therapy. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine and the American Sleep and Breathing Academy.

Dr. Rodgers and his team can’t wait to meet you at his practice near Sandy Springs!

“I was referred to this practice after completing a sleep study. Kelly was the sleep assistant who evaluated me for an oral appliance. She was wonderful. She explained what each of the tests she performed were meant to measure and made sure all of my questions/concerns were addressed throughout the appointment. Dr. Rodgers also did an exam to confirm the findings. The office has all the latest digital equipment which was really interesting to see. No old fashioned molds were required! The process took about 90 minutes. I felt very welcome at this practice. The facility was very nice and parking was a breeze.”

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a sleep dentist?

Sleep dentists are essentially dentists who have specialized training or certification to treat sleep apnea with oral appliances.

Like general dentists, they must earn an advanced dental degree from an accredited university. Unlike general dentists, a sleep dentist goes on to complete “extra schooling” through a recognized training program. Many also complete rigorous testing in order to achieve board-certification status from organizations like the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine. It might sound strange to have your sleep apnea treated by a dentist, but rest assured, they’re well-qualified to do so!

Why should I treat my sleep apnea?

Sleep apnea often comes with a variety of symptoms that impacts a patient’s quality of life. On the mild end of the spectrum, symptoms like snoring can affect a whole household’s ability to sleep restfully. On the more severe end of the spectrum, lack of deep sleep can weaken your immune system and contribute to several general health conditions – as well as mental health issues like anxiety and depression.

Doctors agree: sleep is crucial for regulating many of the body’s essential functions. When REM is interrupted by poor breathing, it’s much harder for your biology to operate efficiently – and for patients to feel good.

What does sleep apnea look like for women?

Generally speaking, sleep apnea symptoms don’t discriminate between genders. It’s possible for women to experience the same symptoms that men do – including snoring. That said, statistically, women are more likely to have insomnia, depression, and anxiety as a result of their sleep apnea.

If you struggle with your mental health, it’s worth investigating whether your quality of sleep is contributing to your challenges.

Do you diagnose sleep apnea?

While Dr. Rodgers is well-qualified to treat sleep apnea, only a sleep doctor can give you an official diagnosis. This often involves a sleep test, which means monitoring several biological markers (like heart rate and breathing) either in the comfort of your own home or in a sleep lab.

What we can do, however, is provide you with a sleep apnea screening. These screenings aren’t a formal diagnosis, but can help you determine whether it’s likely you have sleep apnea.

How long are sleep apnea episodes?

Clinically speaking, sleep apnea episodes (the brief moments during sleep where you stop breathing) last for at least 10 seconds. They can, however, last for as long as 2 minutes. In any given hour of sleep, each individual event can occur anywhere between 5 to 30 times, depending on the severity of your case.
