Sleep Technology: Is It the Next Big Thing?

New sleep technologies may help you get better sleep.

Are you suffering from insufficient sleep or fatigue that leaves you with low energy? A recent increase in sleep-focused startups is improving awareness about how important sleep really is to our quality of life. From your mattress to the sounds that invade your room at night, these technologies target every factor that leads to a good night’s sleep. Using one or a combination of these advances could dramatically improve how much sleep you get and how rested you feel the next morning.

Perfecting Your Environment

Let’s start with two exciting new companies that are trying to solve your sleep challenges. Casper is an online-based mattress company that has been helping people improve their quality of sleep with four layers of high-quality foam.

Casper layers include:

  1. A top layer made of polyfoam, which provides comfort, cooling, and a little bounce.
  2. A memory foam layer provides support for your back and neck while also aiding in pressure relief.
  3. The third layer of support foam provides a cushion from the base layer.
  4. Five inches of poly foam act as the foundation of all the other foam layers.

But, as anyone who’s ever lived with a night-owl roommate knows, it doesn’t matter how comfortable your mattress is if there’s a lot of extra noise invading your bedroom. SNOOZ white noise, an ultra-portable white noise machine with a fan inside, helps solve this problem. There’s no track on loop or fake-sounding water droplets — it’s real, soothing noise made by the fan.

Sana sleep goggles claim to be the world’s first smart sleep mask. It uses audio-visual stimulation to trigger specific brain patterns that promote relaxation and sleep. Sana is currently fundraising to fund further clinical trials. A device that aims to help people go into a deep sleep within 10 minutes, it is currently being rolled out for people with PTSD and chronic pain insomnia.

De-stressing for Better Sleep

Good sleep is can be directly linked lifestyle choices. If you are constantly stressed out, you will probably find it difficult to unwind at night. The tech world has you covered! Download Sense, the app from Hello that helps you fall asleep faster and wake up feeling great. It monitors your sleep to provide specific, personalized feedback on your sleep quality that can boost productivity, creativity, and performance.

Lastly, Thrive Global is a media platform that strives to help end stress and burnout. It offers useful tips and tools, including a series of apps that can help you unplug, recharge, and set boundaries on your relationship with technology.

Sleep Studies

If you’ve tried a few apps and still have restless nights, a sleep study may help determine if a sleep disorder, such as sleep apnea, is the culprit and needs to be treated by a professional.

If you’ve already been diagnosed and would like to discuss treatment for sleep apnea or persistent snoring, including the technology we use here at Sleep Better, Georgia, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.
